Decent single piece of luggage
We used this on our latest family trip to Hawaii. It fit enough clothes for myself, my wife, and my 2 y.o. daughter (plus room to spare). Granted, the clothes we packed were not as bulky as a winter trip to New York, but nevertheless we wanted just one bag to check in. The inside was roomy, and there were several compartments for toiletries, etc. The external pockets were convenient. I loved the swivel wheels... I did not have to tilt the suitcase to wheel it around, and my daughter was able to help me push it. We'll see how this suitcase holds up on our trips to Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Chicago.
The pewter color was easy to spot in the sea of black suitcases. Like the other reviewers, I have to mention that it is easier to spot blemishes on its exterior. But this is probably only due to its color... the black suitcases are also susceptible to the same scuff marks but is just masked by the color. It just makes it easier for me to clean the areas that are scuffed.
The only down-side is the danger of overpacking (which we did) and our bag was heavier than the 50 lb limit. Make sure to check the airline limit in order to avoid any overage fees. We ended up paying the $50 heavy-bag fee (which is B.S. since we were only over by 6 lbs) but we just wanted the convenience of lugging one single suitcase. On our return trip, the suitcase was able to take in 60 lbs of clothes, souvenirs, and Hawaiian goodies... and was still able to close with no sign of the zipper tearing apart. We could have put more stuff in there, but I was afraid that we would exceed the 70 lb limit (which cannot be checked in). For convenience, I would rather have one single large bag and pay for the extra fees, rather than having two smaller suitcases to have to wheel around (at least until our child is old enough to help with managing the luggages).
Overall, it is a decent single piece of luggage. I am looking into the matching 20" or 17" for check-in. I'm leaning towards the 20" due to the laptop compartment and the larger space.

Still traveling 5 years on I bought the upright and the carry on at Target in Montana several years ago. i live in Switzerland and travel to the US several times a year with just these two pieces - capacity is amazing. Yes the grey gets scuffed up. But any luggage after one trip is dirtied. I have been more than satisfied with the pieces especially for the price point. My husband bought a high end aluminum suitcase - the wheel broke off on the first trip. An American Tourister garmet bag ruined after one flight - it is more a function of the baggage handling in my opinion. :2010-09-16 08:05:28
Company wont provide repair parts I purchased this bag at Target and one of the wheels is not wearing evenly. I went to my local luggage repair to get a replacement wheel installed. Wenger does not provide repair parts. I contacted Wenger and they basically validated that they do not offer repair for their product. Now this bag that could easily be repaired will end up in the local landfill. So glad Wenger is a green company. Not!!!. I contacted Target to strongly suggest they no longer sell products from the company. Do NOT buy this bag if you want something to last long and be repairable. If I could give a negative star for this review I most certainly would. :2010-09-16 08:05:28
Excellent will buy another in larger size Enjoyed this tres functional roomy (expands!) bag on one international and a dozen+ cross-country U.S. flights. No scuffs. No dirt. No marks. Looks new. Love the laptop slot. Headed to buy one in a larger size. Wears like iron. Super value from Target. Shoe slots? Brilliant. Extra zipper pockets inside and out allow same necessities in same slot for organized traveler: YOU. Pewter color pops on baggage carousel among sea of black bags and that one vintage blue Samsonite Iowa resident claims. :2010-09-16 08:05:28
